Laxmi dwells in clean houses

That Goddess of wealth, Laxmi prefers neat and clutter less houses, we all know about it. Even though now we are more modern in our outlook, still well before Diwali, the elders in the families start making plans for a mission of through clean of our houses. It includes from whitewash job to dry cleaning the curtains. Even Gandhiji used to say in his prayer meetings that cleanliness is Godliness. Always see to it your home remains neat and clean. It is said that in realty world that those houses which are well-maintained and well-kept, find lot of tenants and buyers. And the houses, which fail on this front, also fail to attract the buyers and tenants.
There is a big house at a shouting distance from D I Khan School in New Rajinder Nagar which is a picture of neglect. Even though owners live in one floor of the house, still it is hardly maintained. Sepia and poor yellow colours of the house are testimony to the fact that as to how one can spoil the property worth crores. Unlike the other well maintained and shining houses in that area, this unfortunate house weeps at its state. A simple enquiry reveals that the owners hardly care the maintenance of it. The result of their apathy towards their own house is that hardly any tenant likes to live there even with less rent.
There is a saying that Goddess Laxmi showers wealth to those who ensure that their house remain neat and clean. Such houses attract large number of tenants if the landlord wishes to give part of his house on rent. “Just make a visit to any part of the capital, you would find, at least, some houses in a state of utter neglect. It happens mainly due to either sheer irresponsible attitude of the owner or when only the aged owners live in their house and their kids live abroad or elsewhere,” says Anil Makhijani of Mak Realtors. In any case, these houses are not considered worth buying or living even on rent by the people.
Realtors are of the opinion that apart from the fact that houses situated at nice locations like near park or close to bus stands, the neat and clean houses are liked by one and all. Those houses which see whitewash jobs at regular intervals with granite polishing and nice water tapes in bathrooms make the house attractive. If the switch board are also clean and garden of the house, if it has, is nicely manicured then nothing like that. That house would fetch its owner better returns unlike those houses which are not maintained properly. Rajat Mahajan, vice president of global realty advisory, Century 21 India, says that it goes without saying that those who care for their houses also get nice returns, but in some cases the particular house could not be maintained as it has to be simply because of property dispute in the family. In such a sad scenario, the disputed parties hardly spend any money on the maintenance part of the house. According to Mahajan, a 300 sq. yard house requires minimum Rs two to three lakhs on maintenance. If you do not spend this much of amount, then it is sure that the house would decay.
Owner of an advertisement agency, Devesh Sharma says that he never faced any trouble in finding a tenant for his East Delhi house as his house is very well-kept. He spends enough money so that it looks great. When his father was alive, he used to ensure that the house gets whitewash before Diwali and Chhat. Now, he does what he used to see. Anyway, have you done the mission clean job for this Diwali in order to please Goddess Laxmi?
