Pets- keeping for love or security
Beware of dogs or Kutte se sawdhan. We have all seen small boards with this message on the front side of many kothies and big houses that here in this house ferocious dog or dogs also lives. Never thought of robbery in this house. If ever made any attempt, the result would be very serious.
It is a different matter that some people even keeping a dog, they do not put board in their houses that they have dogs. Whether people keep dogs only for security purpose? ‘Not at all’ says, Pawan Dhir, specialist on pets. According to him, those who really love them they would not put such board in their house. Those who feel insecure and are not really called as the lover of dogs, they resort to such practices. ‘ I think it is a very feudal attitude. If you have dog, he would take care of your interests. Not only the likes of Doberman, German shepherd and Labrador, even pug (remember the sweet pet of Vodafone ad) would protect his master from any crisis’ says Dhir.
There is also one school of thought that many people keep dogs in their houses simply because they love them. Pets’ specialists feel that keeping the likes of Doberman or German shepherd is definitely costlier than keeping a security guard. A trained security guard you can hire for as low as Rs three thousand. On the other hand, buying such a high-profile dogs can costs you huge sum. They cost up to Rs four-five lakhs. Then their monthly expanses are also very high. Chairman of the well-known private security agency, SIS, RK Sinha says that they have been importing and insuring dogs since long for their industrialist and other VIP clients. They buy these dogs for dog lovers and also for those who want them for security reasons. Meanwhile, Pradeep Jain, Chairman of the Pravsnath group suggests that even the die-hard dog lovers too should avoid keeping them in flats. Small pugs are okay but not the likes of German shepherd or Labrador. ‘ One should think for your neighbours too. Many people did not like pets. One should respect the feelings of your neighbours too,’conludes Pradeep Jain. Sharing his though with Pradeep Jain, Sandep Taneja, director of Ambaji Construction company says that dogs are nuisance in flats. They not only fight more in flats but they also create huge divide among their neighbours. We suggest to our clients to avoid them in flats. Some people listen to our suggestion and some do not.
Whether all dog owners keep them or security purpose? Not really. Some people keep them due to their sheer love or them. Apart from bearing their very high costs, many true dog loves also insure them. Sinha, however, says that if you have a dog, then you can feel assured that your house is safe from robbers or any anti-social element. Pawan Dhir feels that dogs too are very class conscious. More often than not, they would bark on shabbily dressed people when they come to your house. That, of course, does not mean that that they would not bark when some nicely dressed guy visit their house. Anu Gupta of DGS Realtors says that in many cases people put the board of Beware of Dogs even when they do not have any dog. It is just to mislead any one who is keeping an eye on their house. ‘A random survey prove the point that the board informing that here in this house dog or dogs are there mostly found in South Delhi colonies like Vasant Vihar, Defance colony, Panchsheel Park and others. Though, one can see beware of dog boards adjacent to the name plates in almost all the colonies. Punjabi Bagh based industrialist, Ajit Kapoor says that since his childhood days, he has been seeing dogs in his house. His father was great dog lover. Perhaps that is why he too loves them. As now he travels a lot in connection with his business, he thought of putting a notice board that we have dogs. ‘ Till I didn’t travel, I never thought of putting the board. As only my aged parents, wife and two kids live in a big house, I put the board because of security reasons’. Kapoor is proud owner of two big and burly German Shepards. He says that he also insured them as they are very costly.
